Shaping Policies For Alzheimer's Disease in the European Union
London School Of Economics and Political Science
3rd April 1998.

The London School of Economics and Political Science has undertaken a "Trans-national analysis of the socio-economic impact of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in the European Union", in collaboration with research institutions and patients' associations in 11 European countries.

The study was aimed at producing recommendations to the European Commission and individual Member States as to what policies should be adopted in Europe to face the challenges of an ageing population, leading to a rapidly increasing number of cases of AD, and a progressive decrease in the  availability of informal care.

A European Policy Forum will be held in London on 3rd April 1998, as a formal closure of the project. On this occasion, the results of the project will be disseminated to policy makers, their implications will be discussed, and possible strategies for action at the national and European levels will be developed.

The agenda for the policy forum will focus on three components

1) Setting the Context: Ageing, Dementia, Health and Social Care in Europe

2) Socio-Economic Impact of Alzheimer's Disease in the European Union

3) Policy Recommendations to the European Commission
