  • Manitoba Senior Citizens Handbook
    This handbook has been published since 1980 and is now available on the Internet. The home page has lots of links to a large amount of practical information for senior citizens.
  • Seniors Computer Information Project (SCIP)
    This Manitoba program is funded by the Seniors Independence Program of Health Canada and has 2 aspects: (a) to teach older adults computer applications at 6 senior centres throughout Manitoba, and (b) to provide an Internet site on WWW for seniors. It is housed at MBnet at the University of Manitoba. This WWW provides information under such topics as advocacy, health, income and finances, law and consumer issues, lifestyles, travel and leisure, other selected Internet sites, etc.
  • Seniors Guide to Federal Programs and Services
    This is the title of a guide published by the Canadian Minister of Public Health and Welfare. This 4th edition (1994) has been posted to the Internet. There is lots of practical information on 26 different topics such as consumer services, counseling services, income security, protection, technology for seniors.

    This is a very limited resource site. There are sections on themes of aging, upcoming meetings and conferences, newsgroups, books, papers, laboratories, and other Web sites but there is very little information in any of them.

    Everything on this home page is an online link to another resource. It is a somewhat haphazard list and many of the links that were tried for this review did not connect.

  • Galaxy
    EINet's Galaxy is a World Wide Web link to over 100,000 hypertext link titles. The information is organized by topic and under the medicine and then the medical specialities subsections there is a sub-subsection on geriatrics. This has miscellaneous information on physical and occupational therapists in the midwest states as well as book titles. There is also a direct search capability. This compiler, however, found that almost every link tried was either inaccessible or contained very little substantive information.
  • Social Security Administration Online (SSA OnLine)
    A very good resource with links to benefit information, information in Spanish, the full text of the SSA handbook, an online document search service, a very long list of answers to frequently asked questions, and online links to other government servers such as the Health Care Financing Administration, the Census Bureau, the House and Senate gophers, and Thomas, the Library of Congress link to legislative information.
